The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few notable adjustments:
- Each team includes just eight real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Only two maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 players are upset.
Community Responses: From Fury to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
